Security officials were successful in negotiating for the release of 25 Chinese workers. They were held captive by tribesmen in Egypt earlier this week.

The 25 Chinese factory workers who were kidnapped by Bedouin tribesmen in Egypt have been released on Wednesday.

A Chinese Embassy official confirmed the workers were left unharmed.

Bedouin tribesmen in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula region kidnapped the Chinese factory workers on Tuesday, demanding that authorities free fellow tribesmen from prison.

[Unidentified Kidnapper]:
"We will not release any of the Chinese until the five (tribesmen) are released."

The Chinese workers were kidnapped on their way to a Sinai cement plant.

Sources say they were held in a tent near a road the Bedouin have blocked to press their demands.

The kidnappers also called for Egypt to stop exporting gas to Israel and for the Rafah border between Egypt and Gaza to be kept permanently open.

They said their main demand had been promised to them several times.

[Unidentified Kidnapper]:
"The Egyptian government has promised to release our brothers more than ten times. They said our brothers would be set free on January 25 but they remain in jail."

They said the jailed tribesmen were arrested between 2004 and 2006 as part of an investigation into bombings at the Taba resort on Sinai's Red Sea coast.
