In China, two Uighurs were given life sentences, according to a Radio Free Asia report on Friday. They were part of a group of 21 Uighurs deported from Cambodia, where they were seeking asylum.
Many of the other deportees were given sentences from 16-20 years, with unclear charges given in less-than-transparent trials.
Conflicts often occur between Uighurs, the Turkic-speaking Muslims native to the Xinjiang region, and Han Chinese.
Ahead of a change in leadership later this year, the Chinese communist regime is responding to dissent with increasing severity.
