Palestinian Chairman Mahmoud Abbas told Prime Minster Olmert, during their Sunday meeting, that he would secure the release of Israeli corporal Gilad Shalit, who has been held in captivity since June 25, 2006, prior even to the formation of a Palestinian unity government. However, Abbas has yet to demostrate he has the ability to deliver on such promises.
