A senior Palestinian official accused Syria of committing crimes against humanity following an assault by Syrian security forces on aPalestinian camp in the coastal village of Latakia. Yasser Abed Rabo told reporters that troops in naval battleships from the sea and on the ground are shelling houses. The United Nations Relief and Welfare Agency said on Mondaythat between 5,000 to 10,000 Palestinians had fled the camp in Latakia. The Syrian news agency SANA denied the reports and said security forces were operating against armed terrorists. On Tuesday the town was confronted with a fourth day of military attacks on the civilian population. Residents reported heavy machinegun fire and shelling. Syrian Rights groups estimated that at least 34 civilians have been killed in the city since the assault began and over 2,600 people killed since anti-regime protests erupted in March.
