ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
STORY: A fire has seriously damaged a 19th Century church in southern Ukraine, after breaking out during repair work on Thursday (January 26).
The 50 meter-high church, which had been under renovation for two years, caught fire in the early morning.
Firefighters, who doused the flames by the afternoon, managed to save several icons and precious items but could not save the dome, which collapsed.
Local media said the fire may have broken out as a result of a violation of safety regulations in the renovation work.
The landmark Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in the Black Sea port of Odessa was founded in 1820 in the village of Tabaki, today known as Bolgrad.
