Erdogan Triumphs in Turkish Elections, worries Secular Elite

Turkey's ruling moderate Islamist-rooted AK Party won 47 percent of the vote in a decisive election victory on Sunday.  The victory gives Prime Minister Tayep Erdogan leeway for continued liberal economic reforms in an attempt to enter the EU, but creates a potential for tensions with the country's secular elites and the army.  07.24.07
