No major Israeli response is expected to the Kassam rocket attack on the Zikim military base early Tuesday morning in which 67 soldiers were wounded. The rocket exploded near tents where the soldiers were sleeping.The wounded soldiers, all new recruits were to have marked the completion of their basic training just hours after the attack. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack. Israeli politicians and former IDF general demanded that Israel respond harshly, but the majority opposed launching a large scale ground invasion of Gaza.In hasty sessions between Prime MInister Olmert and government ministers, Israel is considering a number of options, including plunging Gaza into darkness.09/11/07
