Netanyahu urges to speed up construction of border fence

2012-01-25 17

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered to step up construction of the fence along the Israel-Egypt border, saying it will help to guard against terrorists and infiltrators. In his third visit to the border near Eilat so far this year, he asked to intensify efforts to build the 240 kilometer fence and complete construction by September 2012. Until now some 50 kilometers of the five meter high metal fence has been completed. Touring not far from the site of last month's terror attack in which 8 Israelis were killed, Netanyahu said the border with Egypt is a border of peace. In order to ensure it remains a peaceful border, the fence must be completed and additional measures taken to boost security in the area, the prime minister said.
