The fire which destroyed the branch of the IKEA store in Netanya earlier this month was caused by an electrical short which occurred when rainwater came in contact with the building's electrical system. The determination made by the Sharon district Police commander put an end to the investigation into possible arson or negligence as a cause of the blaze. At the meeting, which was attended by officials and investigators of Israel's Fire and Rescue Services, it was decided that since there was no suspicion of negligence or crime, the investigation will continue to be handled by the firefighting services. Among other issues to be investigated is the fire detection system in the building, in order to prevent fires in similar structures. The store was totally destroyed in the blaze.
