It's 100 years of the kibbutz and its a reason to celebrate for many in Israel. The celebrations are being held at the birth place of the kibbutz movement on the shores of the Kinneret at Kibbutz Degania Aleph founded in 1910. Some doubted that kibbutz would reach this major milestone after the kibbutz movement suffered a series of crises and privatisations with the winding down of the socialist principles giving way to pure profit making and capitalism in the management of many kibbutzim however the movement is still alive. The celebrations on the Degania Aleph football pitches were attended by 4,000 kibbutznikim with a great sense of pride and confidence. The event was attended by an emotional President Shimon Peres who said the kibbutz was a great victory for the spirit of man and the Jewish People.
