Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels blasts US President Barack Obama's policies as "trickle-down government" in the Republican response to the State of the Union Address.
(SOUNDBITE) INDIANA GOVERNOR MITCH DANIELS (R-INDIANA) SAYING(English):
"The President's grand experiment in trickle-down government has held back rather than sped economic recovery. He seems to sincerely believe we can build a middle class out of government jobs paid for with borrowed dollars. In fact, it works the other way. A government as big and bossy as this one is maintained on the backs of the middle class and those who hope to join it."
While he acknowledged Obama did inherit the U.S. economic crisis, he said the president hadn't delivered on his promise to fix it.
(SOUNDBITE) INDIANA GOVERNOR MITCH DANIELS (R-INDIANA) SAYING(English):
"And he cannot claim that the last three years is anything but worse. The percentage of Americans with jobs is at its lowest than it's been in decades. One in five men of working age and nearly half of all persons under 30 did not go to work today."
Obama has proposed sweeping changes in the tax code and new remedies for the US housing crisis among others.
But the biggest proposals in Obama's election year speech could meet stiff Republican resistance, and are considered unlikely to gain traction in a divided Congress.
