In the largest such IDF operation in recent months, infantry, tank and engineering corps troops staged a limited incursion into two areas of the Gaza Strip, and in fierce gun battles with terrorists from the Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Popular Resistance Committees, 13 Palestinians were killed - mostly armed terrorists. A barrage of Kassam rockets and mortar shells was fired at targets in Israel including the town of Sderot.
