The remains of two 122mm katyusha rockets were discovered in the northern Israeli town of Shlomi on Tuesday morning. Israel Police confirmed that the rockets were apparantly fired before dawn.Gabi Na'aman head of the Shlomi municipality told reporters that the two katyusha rockets were fired overnight, one landed yards from a home and another struck a lampost nearby. Residents in Shlomi told Army Radio they heard loud explosions at approximately 2a.m., but thought it was thunder. The IDF later confirmed the report. It is unclear who was responsible for the rocket attack. The defense establishment was examining the possibility that the rockets were fired as an attempt by Hizbullah or other terror groups in Lebanon to disrupt Wednesday's visit of US President George W. Bush. It was unclear if the IDF troops stationed on the Lebanese border noticed the rockets being fired and the army was checking if its detection systems were working. In June, last year two katyusha rockets were fired at Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel by a Palestinian faction in southern Lebanon.01/08/08
