A former domestic slave in the United States returns home to Taiwan to be reunited with her family after 17 years. She was sold into slavery by her mother due to poverty when she was seven years old.

A Taiwanese woman who was sold to a family in the United States and used as a domestic slave, arrived back in Taiwan on Wednesday to meet her birth family for the first time in 17 years.

Isabel, who was identified by the Chinese name as Ho Hsiao-Feng, returned to her home town of Taitung under official government escort.

Speaking in front of her mother's house, Isabel hugged her relatives and thanked everyone for thier concern.

[Isabel, Ho Hsia-Feng]:
"I know everybody's been worried about me, I just want everybody to be careful, I know that now I just want to spend time with my family, I just want, privacy, I just want privacy, so if you guys can just help in these couple days I just want to be staying with my family."

Isabel was allegedly sold to a wealthy family in the U.S. at the age of seven and later moved with them to California.

The family forced her to cook and clean for them, and denied her an education.

She managed to escape from the family in her 20s but the family that abused her did not suffer any legal consequences, according to the CNN report.

Taiwan's foreign minister met with Isabel in November 2011, and arranged for her to meet with the family.

She is expected to stay in Taiwan for a week to celebrate Chinese New Year and attend her sister's wedding.
