The rest went towards staff compensation and other costs. Bono said the group is about advocacy more than actual donations. That is, they convince governments to send tax dollars abroad as aid. This has laid U2 open to the charges of hypocrisy since they've moved to the Netherlands to avoid taxes. There have been protests at U2 gigs. The Edge, meanwhile, has angered environmentalists by trying to build a mansion on ecologically sensitive land.
