We begin today with news about Chinese rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng's whereabouts.

We learned a couple weeks ago that Chinese rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng had been sentenced to three years in prison. That announcement in state media was the first official acknowledgement that he's still alive after he'd gone missing for 20 months. Now, we've learned *where* Gao is being held: At Shaya County Prison in the remote northwest of China's Xinjiang region.

Gao's brother told foreign media that he got an official notice on Sunday saying that Gao was back in prison, and that the court had revoked his probation.

Gao is one of China's most outspoken dissidents. He has been detained, beaten, and tortured many times since he began defending practitioners of the Falun Gong spiritual group. For his work, he was charged with "subversion of state power" in 2006. He was supposedly put on three years' probation, but has been in and out of police custody ever since.
