The spiritual leader of the Tibetan people is in Prague. He was invited by Vaclav Havel, the former president of the Czech Republic. Our correspondents keep us up to date with the latest insights from the Dalai Lama.

After a public lecture on the topic of searching for happiness in a troubled world, and a discussion about the current state of democracy and human rights in Asia, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave a press conference at the Boscolo Hotel in Prague.

He affirmed his two commitments: one, to promote tolerance among religions, and two, to strengthen people's inner values and moral principles.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]:
"If you tell lie to other people then you deep inside will fell uncomfortable, if you act honest, truthful, transparency, you get self-confidence, so therefore these mental qualities are ultimate source of happy life, successful life."

The Dalai Lama says political problems in the world are caused by the lack of moral principles.

Discussing human rights in China, he says that many Chinese people are still not clear why the Chinese communist party is persecuting Tibetan people and followers of the spiritual practice, Falun Gong.

He says the main reason is heavy censorship and distortion of information.

[Dalai Lama, Tibetan Spiritual Leader]:
"I know many many Chinese who know something about what happened on Falun Gong practitioners or followers... very sad. This system - too much of control, no independent judicial system, no free press, 1.3 billion Chinese people have every right to know the reality. Once Chinese people know the reality, 1.3 billion Chinese people have the ability to judge what is right, what is wrong..."

This year, the Dalai Lama has given up the role of political leader for Tibet.
