‘Teach your wardrobe who’s boss’ says one of Australia’s top fashion designers. To find answers to some common fashion dilemmas, we talk to Australia's Queen of Fashion, Liz Davenport.
Here in the exclusive Melbourne suburb of Toorak we meet Australia's Queen of Fashion Liz Davenport. Liz this year received the 'Order of Australia' for 35 years of work in the fashion industry and in the community.
Liz knows that by transforming her wardrobe a woman can transform her life, and this has been her focus and inspiration.
[Liz Davenport, Dress Designer]:
“... the world wants to promote things that cause women to feel inadequate – supreme beauty, extreme body consciousness, fitness, fabulous hair, gorgeous makeup.”
Liz says clothes need to be psychologically and physically comfortable and flattering in their fit and shape.
The colors chosen must match right through the whole wardrobe.
[Liz Davenport, Dress Designer]:
“It’s a formula – first you get the colors right, now you get the colors that are right for you and then you get four colors at least four and those four colors will all co-ordinate with one another.”
The truth of Liz's concept is not lost on fashion consultant Georgia Venter who just loves working for the Liz Davenport brand.
[Georgia Venter, Fashion Consultant]:
“What she does is she empowers women through clothing, she makes them look like the finished product."
Liz says she knows the value of her work when:
[Liz Davenport, Dress Designer]:
“ … people look into the mirror and say ‘Is that really me?” that looks so fantastic is that really me?”
