Big Holiday Meals and Balancing Calories - as part of the nutrition series by GeoBeats. If you like to eat big holiday meals, some ways to make up for those calories. First of all, are make sure you get some regular exercise. Start out your morning with exercise. Get in a good run, a walk on the treadmill. Take the family on a hike on that day. Studies show that people who exercise in the morning are more likely to get their exercise in and also tend to have better control with their food take as well because you feel so good about that exercise. After the big holiday meal, too, do not just sit and watch the football game. Get up on your feet. You are going to burn some more calories. Simply helping out with clearing the table, washing the dishes, cleaning up the kitchen, helps to digest your food versus just sitting. And then if it is nice out after the big meal, go out for a stroll. It is hard to do vigorous exercise after a big holiday meal which is why I suggest that in the morning. But it is really nice after the meal to take the dog out for a stroll or take the grand kids or the kids out for a stroll. It is also going to help you digest that meal as well as burn a little bit of those calories. Think about small portions of everything you really like. Instead of resolving before the meal that you are going to fill up and be uncomfortable. No one likes to be uncomfortable and feel like you just have to lay on the couch. So have everything, small portion and enjoy. And then remember, the good workout in the morning, the light stroll afterwards, after you have helped get the dishes done.
