U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario on Wednesday (November 22), during a visit aimed to reinforce the security partnership between the two countries.
Clinton's visit belatedly commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Mutual Defence Treaty, signed on August 30, 1951. The Cold War era treaty states that both nations would support each other if either the Philippines or the U.S. were to be attacked by an external party.
Clinton kicked off her day with a visit to the Foreign Affairs department in Manila, where a bamboo orchestra played a Filipino folk song to welcome her.
She held talks with her Philippine counterpart, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.
