Erping Zhang, spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Information Center—an NGO that monitors the persecution of Falun Gong—says this case should not have happened under Vietnamese law.

[Erping Zhang, Falun Dafa Information Center Spokesperson]:
"This incident itself is a tragedy. Because Falun Gong is legal in Vietnam, the Vietnamese constitution should protect people's freedom of speech and expression. The Chinese regime's embassy in Vietnam once gave the Vietnamese authorities a memo, requiring them to restrict and harass Falun Gong practitioners living in Vietnam. We do not want this incident to turn into the first example of the Chinese regime persecuting Falun Gong outside China's borders. We hope [the Vietnamese government] can come to see this incident for what it is, correct their mistakes, and immediately, unconditionally release the imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners."

The Chinese regime has been persecuting the Falun Gong spiritual practice in China since 1999. The Falun Dafa Information Center has documented over 3000 deaths from torture in connection with the persecution.
