Prominent Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is challenging the Chinese regime for slapping him with a 2.4 million dollar tax evasion fine.
Since last Friday, Ai's supporters have been sending in donations to cover the fine, and he's raised about a million dollars so far... and the BBC reports that Ai plans to use that money as collateral to get legal proceedings underway.
Ai is known for being an outspoken human rights activist, and exposed shoddy school construction after a massive earthquake in Sichuan Province in 2008.
