On Tuesday, the Dalai Lama traveled to Mongolia to give lectures to Buddhists. The visit was to remain low-key, but China found out and protested regardless.
The Dalai Lama has visited the traditionally Tibetan Buddhist region before on several occasions. Senior Mongolian lamas repeatedly stressed the Dalai Lama's visit was purely religious, in fear of upsetting Mongolia's biggest trading partner, China.
His visit and speeches come after eleven monks and nuns have set themselves on fire, in a recent renewed bout of unrest in Tibet.
