Herb Wiedoeft & His Orchestra - Sad Moments

Herb Wiedoeft was the brother of saxophonist Rudy Wiedoeft and a pioneering Los Angeles jazz band leader. His most famous band got its name from the Cinderella Roof at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Herb Wiedoeft's life was cut tragically short when he was killed in a car accident in Medford (Oregon) on May 12, 1928. After his untimely death trombonist Jesse Stafford took over the band and released another 13 sides on Brunswick records under the name of the Jessie Stafford Orchestra. Other recordings by this band were released under the name of Herb Wiedoeft and his Orchestra (like the one presented in this case) and Herb Wiedoeft's Famous Orchestra. This fascinating and quite unusual composition by band member Gene Rose (who played clarinet as well as alto and tenor saxophone), was recorded in January of 1928. It should be noted that this recording has exceptionally deep bass definition.
