On Thursday in Zhejiang Province's town of Zhili, over a hundred armed riot police guarded the Zhili town government office. It comes after an earlier tax dispute that escalated into an over 600-person violent protest.

The issue started on Wednesday when a children's clothing store owner refused to pay taxes to local officials. Several other shop owners joined the rally, followed by other members of the public.

Online, blog posts on Weibo showed videos of large crowds blocking traffic, as well as a bus that had been set on fire. Rocks were pelted at officials, cars and public property.

The increasing number of protests is making senior members of the Chinese regime uneasy, ahead of their change in leadership next year.
