Students from Qingdao University tested out their hand made Formula 1 racecar this Friday. It was made by the students themselves with the help of their professors and took over ten months to complete.

Students at the Automobile and Transportation College of Qingdao University in Shandong Province unveiled their finished Formula 1 racecar last Friday.

After ten months of collaboration between professors and students, this Formula 1 is hot and ready to hit the pavement. With a speed of up to 87 miles per hour, this car can go from 0 to 62 miles an hour in just five seconds.

The car is almost 4 feet in height and over nine-feet-long. The students built the car from scratch with a mix of different parts.

[Zhou Xudong, Tutor]:
"Most parts of the car we made ourselves. Sometimes we bought parts and refitted them onto the car."

Formula 1 cars are known for their centralized controls, which are usually placed as close to the drivers hands as possible. They are the highest level of racecar on the track and have the most powerful engines of all the formula cars. They are called Formula 1 because there is literally a formula that must be followed.

This Formula 1 was painted blue to represent the school's colors, and also match the driver's uniform. Thirty student drivers from Qingdao University plan to represent their school in Shanghai at a race against other universities across China.
