China and Vietnam signed an agreement on Tuesday to settle their ongoing disputes over the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is believed to have huge oil and gas reserves. China and Vietnam, along with other Asian countries, have competing claims on various parts of the sea.

The six-point agreement between the two countries includes two annual meetings and a hotline for emergencies. In June this year, Chinese ships stopped Vietnamese ships that were exploring for oil and gas in the South China Sea. After the incident, Vietnamese protested against the Chinese regime nearly every week in the capital Hanoi.
