And North China's Changbai Mountains have seen their first snow of the season. It's a traditional marker of autumn's passing on towards winter.

The high mountains are blanketed with a layer of soft white snow, and the Tianchi--or Heavenly Pond--is hemmed in by white mountain peaks, a bit like an icy theater stage.

The fiery red leaves are now spilling down the mountainside, matched with the white snow uphill present a beautiful mixed view of autumn and winter.

The fantastic scene can be seen only in later autumn and the beginning of winter, according to local tourism sources.

The Tianchi or Heavenly Pond is usually well-frozen by the end of October.
