he Gardens for Good contest, sponsored by Nature’s Path, the maker of organic breakfast foods, and Organic Gardening Magazine, continues to receive applications from urban farms through its Facebook campaign. The competition is awarding $65,000 for urban farming ideas that produce organic food. Applications are being accepted through the end of this month at facebook.com/naturespath.
MGM Resorts International has issued an Environmental Responsibility Report that outlines the company’s strategy, titled “Green Advantage.” By the end of last year MGM Resorts had reduced electric power consumption by 140 million kilowatt hours; reduced carbon emissions by 56,000 thousand metric tons; reduced water consumption by 200 million gallons; and diverted more than 33 percent of its waste from local landfills. The company also introduced the first fleet of compressed natural gas-powered limousines, as well as organic and sustainable food programs at its 165 restaurants.
