A soldier fires to protect protesters in Yemen who face heavy artillery and sniper fire.
Fighting between the protesters and armed government loyalists in the capital Sanaa killed four defected soldiers and two civilians Tuesday.
Men rush the wounded and bloodied into a field hospital on stretchers.
Before the clashes, one protester said the sacrifice was worth it.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PROTESTER, ABDUH ALI SAAD, SAYING:
"Whatever sacrifices we make, it's for this country. We do not care about death, we are not afraid of tanks or missiles being fired on the homes of the innocent and the poor for no reason."
President Ali Abdullah Saleh's rejection of a power transfer plan sparked renewed skirmishes Sunday.
More than 400 people have died since protests began in January.
