2011-09-05 15

Public voting is open for the final 22 projects that have made it through to the finals of the 2011 National Lottery Awards. Windmills Café is competing to be the Best Education Project.

Windmills Cafe provides a training programme linking theory with practical training for young adults with learning disabilities aged 18-25. They use a working café environment to encourage people in developing existing skills whilst learning new ones so they may enter meaningful employment. Through the programme and social activities, Windmills Cafe also aims to reduce social isolation.

National Lottery funding has enabled the project to recruit a multi-disciplinary staff team with expertise in catering, social work, human resources, teaching and training. They paid for the cafe premises, providing a quality working environment that's accessible to all with a broad range of additional support needs.
