This Friday 2nd September, public voting opens for the final 22 projects that have made it through to the finals of the 2011 National Lottery Awards. They include Unfolding the Quilts, a museum in York celebrating the history of historic and contemporary quilts, which is competing in the Best Heritage Project category.
The Quilt Museum and Gallery opened in 2008, displaying the Quilters' Guild of the British Isles' collection of more than 800 historic and contemporary quilts.
National Lottery funding has enabled the museum to run Unfolding The Quilts -- an extensive volunteer programme which recruits and trains up to 80 volunteers at a time, from a variety of backgrounds. Volunteers help manage the museum through stewarding and assisting with exhibition changeovers, teaching education workshops, conservation, display management and administration.
