Active Newcastle, Newcastle – competing for Best Sport Project
Active Newcastle aims to get people of all ages and abilities more involved in sport and physical activity in the run up to the Olympics. It aims to remove the barriers to participation for disadvantaged communities and create a framework that engages and involves the community in sports.
National Lottery funding has allowed the project to employ four full-time staff as well as run special sessions and events to introduce people in the city to sport. The project now runs around 80 sessions per week around the city, with further sessions delivered by partner organisations.
