How to Do a Purl Stitch - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. My name is Flossy with The Yarn Company in New York City. I am going to show you how to do the purl stitch. The purl stitch is the second stitch that you are going to learn how to do. The language of knitting is made up of two basic letters and that is knitting and purling. Purls, some people tend to find a little harder, but with time you will get used to it. To do the purl stitch you are going to have the work, again, in your left hand and your bare needle in your right hand. You are going to insert the right-hand needle, this time from the back towards the front. You are going to take your working yarn, the yarn that is attached to the working ball and you are going to wrap it counter-clockwise around the front of the needle. You are going to pull it back and through the loop. Then you are going to slide that original stitch off the needle. So again, we are going from the back to the front, under the stitch, wrapping counterclockwise around needle and then you are going to pull it back through the loop and off the needle. And that is how you do the purl stitch.
