Kitchen Tips: Storing Chillies - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. In southern California, we have all different types of dried chillies. This is a particular one that I love. They are called arbol chillies, they are very hot. But they come in big packages and most recipes will ask you for one or two. So, what do you do with the rest of them? Well, what I like to do then is take them out of the original package. You want to make sure they are not any bugs or moldy in any way, you want to make sure that they are really firm and dry and they look good. And you are going to fill a ziploc bag with them. And what you will do then is, once you have got them all in the ziploc bag, and I have checked these out already to make sure they are fine. What you want to do is you want to get all the air out of this ziploc bag because you want these to go in the freezer. So, what you are going to do is start to seal this bag. You are going to press out all the extra air. Start to fold it like this. So you know all the extra air is getting out of it, and then, seal. This way they can go in your freezer for long term storage. You could keep these in your freezer for up to a year.
