- European stock markets rose in early trading on Monday, extending gains into a third straight session, helped by a strong session for Asian stocks after a smaller-than-expected decline for the Japanese economy.
- Bank stocks were mostly stronger, including a 2.5% gain for BNP Paribas in Paris. In the UK, shares in recruitment and staffing firm Michael Page dropped 11% after its first-half results disappointed.
- The Stoxx Europe 600 Index rose 0.4% to 238.51, the French CAC 40 Index climbed 0.7% to 3,252.42, the UK FTSE 100 Index gained 1.2% at 5,358.48 and the German DAX 30 Index rose 1.6% to 6,091.05.
