The shortcut is CTRL+J. Learn it. Practice it. PREACH IT! :P
Duplicating in photoshop is something that you will do ALL the time when you start to use it professionally as it is a really handy feature. This particular example which I have shown is one where you could practice duplicating and adjusting size AND orientation.
