How to Core a Pear for Poaching - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Hi, my name is Oron Franco, from The Private Chef NYC, and today I am going to show you how to core a pear for poaching. Now, since we are going to poach this pear, I already went ahead and peeled it. What poaching is, is cooking something in a liquid in a very low temperature to allow whatever it is you are cooking to absorb all the flavors of your cooking liquid. So, if this is pear, we can poach it in some red wine, maybe a fruit infused liquid with some sugar for a nice desert. We can eat the inside, so we are going to want to take the core out. Now, we are going to take this little tube, this is for coring, place the pear like this, standing up, and just take this and slide it all the way in. Give it a few turns and pull out, and this will come out in one piece. Toss this and you have got a perfect pear for poaching.
