Choosing Fabric Types - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. There are a whole slew of questions that we ask people when they are looking for fabric. You are going to want to know or think about how it is going to be used. Is it going to be laundered, is it something that is going to need to be wiped down throughout the day, is it something that is not going to be used that much and it is going to look pretty in a corner, is it something that is going to be like an heirloom piece that you are hoping to pass on to generation after generations. If you are talking about clothing, you are going to want to think about movement. If it is something you need to have stretch in it or if you want it to be rigid, well even beyond clothing, like going back to curtains. If it needs to hold a straight pleat, how much light is going to come through the fabric, how opaque you need it to be. All sorts of different, just really think through if it needs to be breathable, if it does not matter if it is breathable, all sorts of different things that you can answer about how the fabric is going to be used is going to help you decide which fabric and help the person who is helping you guide you to which fabric is going to be the most appropriate for your project.
