The Kazoo Funk Orchestra formed in Scotland in 2005 by members Big Beard and Little Beard. The collective started out jamming in Little Beard's home studio exchanging influences and mashing genres which lead to their eclectic mix-tape sound.
In May 2006, the band released their 25-track debut album, Midnight Finger Painter, in which the first 500 copies included a unique finger painting created by both fans and band members at finger painting sessions in Glasgow, Scotland.
The release of Midnight Finger Painter was followed by a handful of gigs and then it was back into the studio to work on the follow-up album, Adventures In Fuzzy Felt Land. Unlike the first album where band members collaborated in the same room on recordings, Adventures In Fuzzy Felt Land was written and recorded trans-Atlantic, with members of the band spread between Canada and Scotland. Adventures In Fuzzy Felt Land was released in January 2007.
In the summer of 2007, The Kazoo Funk Orchestra took on their first full UK tour which included a couple festival dates. In an explosion of balloons and confetti, the collective turned each gig into a party inviting the crowd to join in on the fun. And with standing room only outside the Solus tent at the Wickerman Festival, the band secured the closing slot for the 2008 Wickerman Festival.
After the band finished touring, they hit the studio again to create their third album entitled, This Album is Self Titled. Early copies of the album were released in July 2008, with a crayon in the spine and a colouring book as the insert.
Then, after a short tour including a date supporting Har Mar Superstar and a few festival apperances, the BBC invited the collective up to Stornoway to record a live session for BBC Rapal. The BBC session was first aired on BBC Alba in January 2009.
Shortly after the BBC session, Little Beard underwent brain surgery which saw his departure from the band and a new line up was formed.
