U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has just wrapped up a visit to China. In Hong Kong she briefly met with legislators and answered questions about the future of China's legal system and the transition to full democracy in Hong Kong.

On her brief visit to Hong Kong, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meets with Hong Kong legislators at her hotel. Chairman of the Democratic Party, Albert Ho, raised the issue of the plight of rights lawyers in mainland China with Mrs. Clinton.

[Albert Ho, Hong Kong Legislator]:
"My opinion is that for rights lawyers in China, it is very important to establish a good system that can guarantee fairness, be transparent, and follow the rules."

Fellow Democrat Audrey Eu also emphasized the importance of the improvement of China's legal system.

[Audrey Eu, Hong Kong Legislator]:
"I have seen that many rights lawyers from the Mainland feel Hong Kong's law and order is very important, the law and order in the Mainland needs to improve. I hope the international community can pay attention to these issues."

They say Clinton recognizes the importance of shared values, despite cultural differences.

[Audrey Eu, Hong Kong Legislator]:
"Mrs. Clinton's response was: actually in every region's political development, of course there are historical and cultural differences, but there are some internationally recognized core values that should be applied everywhere."

Clinton pointed out that the road to full democracy depends on the Hong Kong people.

[Albert Ho, Hong Kong Legislator]:
"She pointed out that with many things we must put forth effort ourselves, for example the issue of democracy, what is most important is the decision of the Hong Kong people."

Ho says he hopes the communist officials that handle Hong Kong and Macao can learn from Clinton's open attitude.
