Common Mistakes in Running - part of the women's fitness video series by GeoBeats. When people are new to running, sometimes they make some common mistakes. A very common mistake that I see is people who bring their arms across their body. So what you are doing here is you are shifting your shoulders side-to-side, and that is pushing your momentum the wrong direction. So think about it, you are going this way, then this way, then this way, when you want to be going that way. So you want to keep your arms facing forward and keep your shoulders level. So can you see that? Level, so that they stay in alignment with each other and do not cross in front of your body. Another common mistake is that a lot of people look down at their feet like this or look up at the sky. And that is scrunching your spine, which goes all the way up into your skull. So you want to keep your head in alignment and look about ten feet in front of you. That helps keep your head in a proper position so you are not looking too far down or too far up. Another very common mistake is that people do not get their feet high enough, and they tend to shuffle, and then you are just wasting energy, you are not getting the push off that you need for the next step.
