"Himalayan Fox at its kill, competing with Pied Magpies, in upper Ladakh, winter 2011. Himalayan Fox is one of the rare species in Ladakh. Himalayan Fox are adapted to the cold environment. They have black triangular markings between the eyes and nose, and the tip of the tail is often a different colour from the rest of the pelt. They usually feed on small rodents. Ladakh is known for bone chilling temperatures and high mountainous terrains. Ladakh lies between the Kunlun mountain range in the north and the main Great Himalayas to the south. Ladakh is the highest plateau of the Indian state of Kashmir with much of it being over 3,000 m (9,800 ft). It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in Kashmir.
