There recently was a film plagiarism fiasco in Vietnam that involved a Vietnamese American ripping off a Hollywood film to fool his fellow Vietnamese that he's a Hollywood Hitchcock director.
The plagiarist Victor Vu knew Vietnam had a Trade Embargo imposed by the United States until 1994 so he picked Wolfgang Petersen's Hitchcock thriller Shattered from 1991, copied it shot by shot, renamed it Inferno (Giao lo dinh menh) and released it in Vietnam and claimed to be a Hollywood Hitchcock director.
