I am American-born but have been living in France since 1994. I am now a French citizen. Though this street is busy and active (even though it is Sunday), most of Le Marais in Central Paris is quiet, quaint, varied and fascinating. There is so much to do and see there -- much of it for free, such as some of the excellent museums run by Ville de Paris. (The Carnavalet Museum and the Cognack-Jay Museum come to mind.) This old Jewish quarter is also quite gay, and is full of shops, restaurants, parks and squares, incredibly old and varied architecture, the Shoah Memorial, and more. It truly has something for everyone. One way to get here is to take the 1 métro to the "Saint-Paul" stop. This is close to the River Seine.
