Auto Talk 101: Checking and Replacing Wiper Blades - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats. Visibility, obvioulsy, is very important, we do have to change our wiper blades occasionally. Usually you know when it is time when they streak and they are not cleaning your window properly. Sometimes, they are just dirty and all you need to do really is wipe the blade off. I recommend with a little rubbing alcohol, and clean your windshield with a little rubbing alcohol, that will remove grease, and grime and stuff from the environment and sometimes buy you an extra month or two out of your wiper blades. When it is time to change them, it is pretty straight forward. I recommend getting what we call Exact Fit blades. That means they are going to have the exact same attachment and you can change them pretty easily. I am just releasing, there is usually just a push button latch. If you are using the Exact Fit blades you can slide the old one off and the new one goes on exactly the same way. Slip it in there, and it will click right into place. When you do buy your own wiper blades, you will notice that they always come with a little, basically it is a little alcohol wipe. And we are going to take this and we are going to clean the blade surface. You can see we are getting some grime off the brand new blade. It happens in manufacturing and packaging. After we have changed the blade, it is always a good idea to wash your window, get all the debris and dust and so on off the window and then take just a regular paper towel with a little rubbing alcohol, and clean the window with a little rubbing alcohol. You will find you will get the same kind of grime that you get off the rubber, and it will cut down on streaking significantly. That is why they put those in with the wiper blades.
