Zoologists in China are about to start counting pandas. It's the fourth census for the endangered species. The number of pandas in the wild is counted once every ten years.
The last census counted just under 1600 pandas. Three-quarters of them were in Sichuan province.
Panda numbers have been decreasing due to poaching, habitat loss, and poor breeding. Pandas in the wild only have one cub every two or three years, and the 300 pandas in captivity breed even less.
