The Dalai Lama's 12-day Australian tour continues with a visit to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland where he talked to a crowd of approximately 4,000 about kindness and compassion. Here is more from our Australian correspondent.

Thousands flocked to Chenrezig Institute on the Sunshine Coast to hear the Dalai Lama's talk about "Everyday Kindness" and "Developing Compassion."

The traditional owners of the land welcomed His Holiness to the country.

Many came seeking guidance on how to cope with the conflicts in the world and stresses facing humanity today.

[Bob Abbot, Mayor, Sunshine Coast Regional Council]:
"In general terms I am here on a personal level. I am certainly here as the mayor but it is more about what I can glean from this today."

The Dalai Lama's happiness was evident as the crowd enjoyed his famous and uplifting laughter.

His presence and message had a profound effect.

[Kaye Robertson, Brisbane Resident]:
"To sit and watch a man who I personally think is one of loveliest men on the planet is just an awesome way to finish his visit."

Although the Dalai Lama's visit to Chenrezig Institute was brief, his simple words of wisdom and his laughter will live on in the hearts of many.
