Forest officials rescued a leopard from water well in western India's Gujarat state. Many animals are forced to leave the forests in search of food because of massive deforestation and poaching in recent years.

This leopard fell into a well while looking for food, but was safely rescued by forest officials.

Officials conducted a careful rescue operation to pull the leopard out of deep water with a rope.

Many people from nearby area gathered to get a glimpse of the animal.

Massive deforestation, poaching and people encroaching upon forest corridors have forced wild animals to move out of their natural habitats in search of food and water.

Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh says leopard attacks in urban areas are becoming more and more common. At the same time, leopards are being killed by people across India. So the minister had issued new guidelines to deal with this man-leopard conflict.

According to official data, more than 900 leopard attacks have been reported from northern and western India over the past 10 years.
