n Sunday, a fire broke out from a three-building shopping mall in the downtown area of Xining City in northwest China. According to state-run media, one woman perished.
Another 12 were rescued and treated in the hospital for injuries mainly caused by smoke inhalation.
State-run media reports that about 600 firefighters responded, but rescue work was hindered by the raging fire and rolling smoke.
Local authorities have launched an official investigation into the cause of the fire.
